We have booked the pool at the Clontarf Baths for another 6 weeks of open swim sessions, with a coach on deck to offer advice to those who seek it. This block will start on Tuesday June 13th at 6pm and run for 6 consecutive Tuesdays at the same time, finishing on July 18th. The programme is open to members of the LGBTQ+ community aged 18+ and costs €40 + Eventbrite booking fee per person.
What The Baths offers is a sheltered, safe swimming environment, but all the benefits of sea water swimming. The water is cleaned, filtered and lightly chlorinated for health and safety.
FAQ:
About the Pool:
The pool is 900 square meters total, with a depth of 1.875 meters in the deepest end and 1.05 meters in the shallow end. It is 40 meters wide at its widest point and 25 meters long at the longest point.
Water Temperature:
The pool is not heated so you must be comfortable in the cold water to join this programme.
Changing facilities:
They have six individual changing rooms which are gender neutral - most people tend to change on the bank. There are two hot showers on site.
Is a Wetsuit Required?
Clontarf Baths is in an outdoor pool filled with sea water from Dublin Bay so it is definitely colder than an indoor swimming pool! Many people wear the wetsuit and gloves/boots/hat that they would normally wear while sea swimming, while other brave souls just wear their swimming togs...it is completely up to you! Remember that this session runs for 6 weeks during June/July so the water should be warmer than the previous session here.
Swimming Ability:
These are not swimming lessons – it is a social swimming hour so we recommend that you are able to swim lengths and be comfortable in sea water.
