LGBTQ+ Women’s Sports Day

We are delighted to introduce our third LGBTQ+ women’s sports event as part of the Dublin Pride 2024 celebrations! Women of all ability levels, from beginner to seasoned athlete, are invited to join us for what promises to be a day of fun and socialising with your peers in the LGBTQ+ community.

Event Details:

  • Where: Railway Union Sports Club, Park Avenue, Sandymount, Dublin 4, D04 PF86

  • When: Saturday June 08th

  • Cost: €8 per person + the Eventbrite registration fee


Important Extra Info

  • Volunteers will be present on the day to support and guide you as needed.

  • Parking is very limited so it is advised that you arrive using public transport.

  • The orders for food will be placed on May 27th. After this date we will not be able to make any changes to orders.

  • We ask that if you have a mouthguard you bring it to use on the day when playing lacrosse. If you don't already have a mouthguard we will do our best to provide one.


Breakdown of Important Times

  • Registration is open from 11.20am - 11.50am in the Clubhouse function room.

  • Sports Activities from 12.00pm-3.00pm

  • Food, drinks and socialising from 3.00pm on!


Overview of The Day’s Structure

All of the sports below are taster sessions - you do not need to have any previous experience in the sports to take part. The sports are listed as running for one hour each but there will be breaks between each activity.

  • 11.20am-11.50am - Registration

  • 12.00 - 1.00pm - Introduction to Lacrosse - a new sport for everyone to try!

  • 1.00pm - 2.00pm - The group will split in half, with one group playing football with the Phoenix Tigers and the other group playing tag with the Emerald Warriors

  • 2.00pm-3.00pm - The groups will swap over to the alternate sport - footballers to tag rugby and vice versa

  • 3.00pm - Burgers and drinks at the Club House!


Registration Costs

The cost to register is €8 per person + the Eventbrite registration fee. This includes participation in all the activities, a burger & chips and a Goody Bag (TBC). You also have the option to donate to Dublin Lesbian Line during the registration process if you choose to do so. If you are not in a position to pay the fee please contact info@sportingpride.ie


What to Wear

  • Please wear comfortable sports clothing.

  • The activities will take place on a grass pitch so feel free to wear studded boots if you have them. However, the Lacrosse may take place on the hockey pitch (TBC) and you will need regular runners or astro runners for this.

  • Showers are available on site if you wish to use them afterwards but they are open showers, not individual cubicles.

  • You can leave your bag in the function room during activities - a volunteer will be on site and staying in the room with the bags. However, we cannot take responsibility for any valuables so please take them with you or leave them at home where possible.

  • Once the sports activities end at 3.00pm we will no longer have a volunteer in that role.


Food & Refreshments

Feed Catering will be serving up food from 3.00pm. The registration fee includes a burger and chips. The food will be cooked during the sports and most should be ready for collection when you finish around 3.00pm. During the registration process you will be asked to choose one option from the following list:


Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich

Sesame dredged free range Chicken fillet, House Pickles, shredded Lettuce, Beef Tomato, Ranch Dressing


Beef and Pancetta Cheese Burger

100% Irish Beef Patty, American Cheese, smoked Pancetta, crispy Shallots, Tomato Ketchup & American Mustard


Falafel Burger (Vegan if you choose ‘Vegan Sauce’)

Homemade falafel Patty, roasted red pepper humus.Beef tomato, shredded lettuce, house pickles and garlic drizzle


During the registration process you can also inform us if you are Coeliac so we can ensure a food option is available for you on the day. Please note - the chicken burger is not coeliac adaptable. You will not be able to change your order on the day as all of the food is pre-ordered.

We ask that all participants bring their own bottled water. The clubhouse bar will be open for anyone who wants to buy a drink on site.


Photographer On Site

The wonderful Debbie Hickey from Studio Ten Photography will be covering this event and will be on site throughout the day. If you do not want to be included in photographs please approach the photographer to make your wishes known beforehand.


Paramedics

Two paramedics will be on site. Please don’t hesitate to approach the paramedics or a volunteer if you are in need of any support.
